Alison Stephens

Alison Y.L. Stephens is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Writing Program at Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). She joined Northeastern in 2017 as a Multilingual Writing Support Specialist, coordinating resources for faculty and tutors working with multilingual students. Previously, she held similar roles at the University of Oregon and taught at an international secondary school in Hong Kong. Her research focuses on writing feedback strategies for second-language learners, graduate student communication support, and teaching methodologies for conceptual change.

Alison holds an MA in English Literature from the University of Oregon. She has coordinated thesis/dissertation support at the Northeastern Writing Center and briefly served as its Interim Director. Currently, she specializes in online Advanced Writing in the Disciplines courses, emphasizing professional and academic writing across disciplines.

Alison is affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the International Writing Centers Association (IWCA). Her teaching portfolio includes First-Year Writing, Multilingual Writing Support, and Business Professions Writing courses. Office hours are held Wednesdays with flexible scheduling via Calendly.

Key honors include the 2017 Scholars for the Dream Award, 2016 Equity & Inclusion Award, and 2013 Dan Kimble Teaching Award. She collaborates with colleagues like Professors Elizabeth Britt, Chris Gallagher, and Neal Lerner in advancing writing education initiatives.
