Dr. Alison Schinkel-Ivy is an Associate Professor at Nipissing University's Schulich School of Education within the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies. She holds a BHK and MHK from the University of Windsor and a PhD from York University. Her research specializes in biomechanics, focusing on movement characteristics in older adults across the lifespan. She investigates interactions between age, psychological factors (fear of falling, balance confidence), cognitive loading, and environmental conditions on movement strategies and their relationship to falls and injuries.
Her research examines gait, balance, and postural stability during aging and post-stroke recovery, using perturbation-based training and biomechanical assessments. Recent work explores dynamic postural control, treadmill gait adaptations, and reactive balance interventions in clinical populations.
Schinkel-Ivy's publications demonstrate consistent focus on quantifying movement impairments and developing rehabilitation strategies through advanced motion analysis techniques and cross-sectional studies.
