Alison Reiko Loader is a part-time lecturer at Concordia University in the Departments of Cinema and Design and Computation Arts, with a PhD in Communication Studies completed in 2018. Her work bridges media art, feminist media history, and scientific visual culture.

Her research explores old optical media, media archaeology, and intersections between animation studies, entomology, and installation art. She has collaborated with biologists on projects involving manipulated moving imagery and installations.
Alison has taught courses like Digital Media 1, History of Animated Film, and Discursive Design at Concordia since 2001, as well as 3D Animation and CGI at Dawson College. Her SSHRC-funded doctoral research focused on a feminist history of optical media in 19th-century Edinburgh.
Outside academia, she volunteers with JAME and serves on the board of the National Association of Japanese Canadians (Quebec chapter).
