Alison Prahl is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Baylor University, housed within the Robbins College of Health & Human Sciences. She is a certified speech-language pathologist with clinical experience in public school settings, serving children with diverse communication needs.
Research Interests: Dr. Prahl's work focuses on advancing understanding of language and literacy development in two key populations: children with primary language impairment and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly Down syndrome. Her research aims to improve clinical outcomes through evidence-based practices and deeper diagnostic profiling.
She directs the Language Impairment and Down Syndrome (LIDS) Lab, where her team investigates developmental trajectories, intervention efficacy, and assessment tools tailored to these populations. Her work has received competitive funding from the National Institutes of Health and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, highlighting its scientific and clinical significance.
Teaching & Mentorship: Dr. Prahl teaches graduate courses such as CSD 5337: School-Age Language and Literacy Disorders and CSD 5325: Speech Sound Disorders. She mentors students to become innovative, collaborative clinicians who integrate expertise to meet diverse client needs and drive progress in the field of speech-language pathology.
