Alison McCandlish

Dr Alison McCandlish is a Lecturer in City Planning at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Urban Studies & Social Policy. She holds a PhD in Environmental Planning with a focus on digital cultural asset mapping and urban heritage. Her roles include Programme Convenor for MSc City Planning and Course Convenor for Urban Conservation. She is a chartered town planner (MRTPI) and member of professional bodies like the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.

Her research interests span creative community engagement in planning, architectural conservation, sustainability, and digital media applications for heritage preservation. She has published widely on topics including hidden cultural heritage, playful urban design, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL). Recent work includes studies on ludic landscapes and collaborative writing practices.

McCandlish has contributed to international conferences such as the Conference on Cultural Heritage and New Technologies (Vienna) and the UK Ireland Planning Research Conference.
