Alison J. Mackey is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University. Her research focuses on second language acquisition, learning methodologies, and applied linguistics. She has authored/edited over 100 articles and 17 books, including seminal works like The Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition (2011) and Second Language Research: Methodology and Design (2021). Her work has been cited over 35,000 times, making her the world's most cited female scholar in applied linguistics. Mackey also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Annual Review of Applied Linguistics and Editor of the Routledge Second Language Research series.
Her research interests include lifespan second language learning, methodological innovations, and the pedagogical applications of SLA theories. She has received prestigious awards such as the AAAL Distinguished Scholarship Award and IATBLTT's Distinguished Achievement Award. Mackey's contributions bridge theoretical and practical dimensions of language learning, emphasizing rigorous research design and interdisciplinary collaboration.
