Alison Calear is a Professor and Co-Head of the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University (ANU), within the College of Science. Her work focuses on youth mental health, digital mental health interventions, and prevention strategies for anxiety, depression, suicide, and self-harm. She leads the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and Suicide Prevention research unit, currently evaluating resources like the Recognise, Respond and Support - A Parent's Guide to Youth Mental Health. She holds a NHMRC Fellowship and is Treasurer of the Society for Mental Health Research.
Dr. Calear's academic background includes a BAppPsych (Hons) and PhD. Her research emphasizes evidence-based interventions, including digital tools and community programs. She has led numerous projects, such as the LifeTrack cohort study and evaluations of school-based mental health programs. Key collaborations include work with UNSW as a Visiting Professorial Fellow.
Her research spans over 200 publications and 36 projects, addressing issues like suicide prevention, disaster mental health, and telehealth. She has contributed to policy and outreach, including submissions to the IPCC and public education initiatives. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications, aiming to improve mental health outcomes globally.
