Alison Beringer is an Associate Professor of Classics and General Humanities at Montclair State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a BA from McMaster University, an MA in Classics from the University of Victoria, and a PhD in German Studies from Princeton University. Her research examines Latin and vernacular texts, manuscript transmission, and visual arts in medieval and early modern contexts.

Research Interests: Dr. Beringer specializes in death in literature, medieval manuscript culture, the reception of antiquity, and the intersection of literature with visual arts. Her current project explores pre-modern literary representations of statues to analyze urban environments’ non-verbal realms in the late medieval and early modern eras.
Publications: Her monograph The Sight of Semiramis (2016) analyzes literary and artistic depictions of Queen Semiramis, while her co-edited volume Gender Bonds, Gender Binds (2021) examines medieval German literature’s portrayal of gender and family dynamics. These works reflect her interdisciplinary approach bridging literary and art historical studies.
