Alisa Pojtinger is a researcher at the SALTUS! Group Responsible Artificial Intelligence within the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) at the University of Freiburg, a position she has held since November 2020. Her work bridges legal scholarship and artificial intelligence ethics through an interdisciplinary lens.
Her academic foundation includes:
- Law and Criminology studies at King’s College London
- Law and Criminology studies at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences
- Legal education at the University of Law in London
Her research critically examines the tension between democratic governance, rule of law principles, and AI development, with concentrated expertise in human rights implications of digital surveillance systems. She investigates how technological advancements outpace legal frameworks, particularly regarding privacy rights under the UK Human Rights Act 1998 and patent law applicability to AI-generated inventions. Her scholarship consistently addresses the deficit in legal responsiveness to AI-driven societal transformations.
As part of the Saltus! Group led by Prof. Dr. Joschka Boedecker, Dr. Philipp Kellmeyer, Prof. Dr. Oliver Müller, and Prof. Dr. Silja Vöneky, she contributes to FRIAS's mission while maintaining professional connections to the Faculty of Law (evidenced by the group's jura.uni-freiburg.de email domain). She possesses prior experience at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and is currently preparing for the New York State Bar Examination.
