معرفی
Dr Aline Bompas is a Reader and Director of Research in the School of Psychology at Cardiff University. She is also affiliated with CUBRIC, the Cardiff University Brain Imaging Centre, and is a member of the Cognitive Neuroscience Group. Her research integrates behavioral experiments, computational modeling, and neuroimaging techniques to understand how the brain makes rapid visuo-motor decisions and how these processes vary within and between individuals.
Education:
- PhD in Cognitive Sciences, Université Paris 5 (2005)
- DEA (Advanced Master's) in Cognitive Sciences, Paris (2001)
- MSc in Biology, Institut National Agronomique de Paris (2001)
- Scientifique Baccalauréat, Lycée Chaptal, Paris (1998)
Research Interests:
Dr Bompas's work spans three major themes:
- Fast Action Decisions: Using drift-diffusion models and neural field models to understand how saccadic and manual responses are initiated under time pressure.
- Variability in Visuo-Motor Behavior: Investigating why performance fluctuates over time and how this relates to aging, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s disease using MEG and EEG.
- Visual Perception and Learning: Exploring how perception is shaped by experience, with a focus on color perception and afterimages.
Scientific Awards:
- Fyssen Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2005–2006)
Funding and Grants:
- ESRC Grant (£633,613), 2013–2016: "A framework and toolkit for understanding impulsive action" (Co-I)
Teaching and Supervision:
Dr Bompas contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including modules on Thinking, Emotions and Consciousness and Perception and Action. She currently supervises PhD students Phil Schmid and Heather Statham, and has previously supervised Adelina Halchin, Marlou N. Perquin, Maciej Szul, and Georgie Powell.
Labs and Collaborations:
She is a core member of the Cognitive Neuroscience Group at Cardiff and collaborates internationally with researchers from Cambridge, Aston, and other institutions. Her lab uses EEG, MEG, eye-tracking, and computational modeling to study decision-making and perception.
