Alicia W. Peters, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of New England’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She is also affiliated with the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program and the Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice. Her work bridges cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, and gender studies, focusing on human trafficking and its intersections with public health and legal policy.
Research Interests
Professor Peters’ research explores how cultural understandings of gender and sexuality shape U.S. anti-trafficking law and policy, emphasizing implications for public health. She has authored two books: Responding to Human Trafficking (2015), which examines legal and cultural frameworks, and the forthcoming Trafficking Trajectories (2025), analyzing vulnerability and systemic failures in trafficking contexts.
