Alicia Fontnette is an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Delaware. She is a scholar-activist committed to the liberation of Black and Brown communities, emphasizing social justice in education. Her work integrates decolonial pedagogy and student-centered learning. Fontnette serves as Membership Chairperson for the National Council for Black Studies and previously held roles at Spelman College (2012–2016) and in K-12 education. She founded Transformative Educational Coaching, LLC (2021) to support educators in fostering dialogue-driven classrooms.

Research Focus: Black women’s development, liberatory educational practices, and the impact of systemic oppression in academia and K-12 systems. Her work explores Black women’s literary voices as tools for liberation and challenges colonial educational frameworks.
Teaching Areas: Black Feminist Theory, African Novel Studies, and Black Women’s History.
Professional Activities: Advocacy for curriculum inclusivity and anti-oppressive pedagogy through her LLC and academic roles.
