Alicia B Colvin is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh. Her work focuses on psychiatric epidemiology, particularly the impact of the menopausal transition on mental health in midlife women.
- Education: BA in Biology from Bowdoin College (1996), MPH in Epidemiology (2001), and PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology (2012) from the University of Pittsburgh.
Colvin's research explores how factors like family history of depression, sleep hygiene, BMI, and financial strain during midlife influence long-term mental and physical health outcomes in women. She has identified distinct trajectories of depressive symptoms relative to the final menstrual period and demonstrated links between midlife physical function decline and lifestyle/health factors.
Her publications highlight longitudinal trends in women's health through the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), emphasizing the interplay between psychosocial, behavioral, and biological variables. Recent work (2023-2024) examines physical function improvement and depressive symptom dynamics during the menopausal transition.
Colvin's academic contributions include collaborations with multidisciplinary teams on the SWAN study, advancing understanding of aging-related health disparities in women.
