Alice Mazeaud

Alice Mazeaud is a Maître de Conférences (Associate Professor) in Political Science at the University of La Rochelle's Faculty of Law and Political Science. She is an active researcher with the LIENSs Research Team and serves as co-editor of the interdisciplinary journal Participations. Mazeaud holds significant institutional roles including co-director of the Institute of Justice and Administration Professions since 2016, and elected member of both the scientific commission and academic council at La Rochelle University. She also serves on CNU 04 (National University Committee) since 2019.

Mazeaud's research focuses on participatory democracy, examining the professionalization and marketing of participation, transformations in local public action, and the (de)politicization of environmental issues. Her political sociology approach investigates how participatory standards are created, the international circulation of actors and knowledge in participatory systems, and changes in political representation within territorial governance. She explores the tension between formal compliance with participatory requirements and genuine grassroots engagement, particularly regarding environmental policy and climate adaptation.

Her teaching portfolio aligns closely with her research interests, including Public policies for sustainable development (Master 2), Planning and consultation (Master 2), Territorial and European policies (Master 1), Political sociology, Introduction to Political Science, and International Relations. She is responsible for the university diploma 'Management and facilitation of participatory approaches,' demonstrating her commitment to translating research into practical training for professionals in participatory governance.
