Alice L. Stewart

Alice L. Stewart is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Hickton Center for Community Legal Services & Clinical Legal Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Her roles include overseeing the Low-Income Tax Clinic and Securities Arbitration Clinic, where she trains law students through real-world client representation. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, multiple federal courts, and Pennsylvania courts.

Professor Stewart holds a JD from Duquesne University School of Law and a B.S.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from Robert Morris University. Her research focuses on securities law and tax law, with an emphasis on advocating for low-income taxpayers and small investors.

Her legal practice includes extensive trial and appellate experience in tax controversies, estate disputes, and securities arbitration. Notable cases include Mannella v. Commissioner of IRS, where her team challenged IRS regulations, and amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Her clinics have recovered over $500,000 for clients and resolved millions in tax liabilities for low-income individuals.

She has also led outreach programs on securities fraud and identity theft prevention in Western Pennsylvania.
