Alice Gorman is an Associate Professor in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University, where she pioneered the field of space archaeology. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of New England in 2001 and is internationally recognized for reframing orbital debris as cultural heritage.
Her research examines space artifacts and sites through archaeological frameworks, analyzing material culture from early satellites to lunar landing sites. Current projects include NASA-collaborative studies of the International Space Station's archaeology using machine learning to optimize future missions.
Professor Gorman advocates for ethical space policies through UN Office of Outer Space Affairs and Australian Space Agency involvement. She directs initiatives promoting Indigenous participation in space governance and leads the Space4Women Mentor Network addressing gender disparities in STEM fields.
Her award-winning book 'Dr Space Junk vs The Universe' establishes space heritage principles, archived by the National Library as significant scientific literature. Media contributions include expert commentary on space culture and regular articles in The Conversation.
