Alice Gaby is an Associate Professor (Research) in the Department of Linguistics at Monash University. Her work focuses on semantic and structural typology, the interplay between language, culture, and cognition, and the documentation of endangered Australian Aboriginal languages. She collaborates extensively with Indigenous communities, particularly speakers of Paman languages like Kuuk Thaayorre, emphasizing ethical research practices.
Her research explores how environmental and cultural factors shape spatial language and cognition, including studies on geo-centric directional systems and time-space mappings. Notable projects include 'Unlocking the Archive' (2024–2029) and a descriptive grammar of Warriyangga/Thiinma.
