Prof. Alice C. Quillen is a Professor at the University of Rochester's Department of Physics and Astronomy. Her research focuses on galactic dynamics, celestial mechanics, and exoplanetary systems. She has made significant contributions to understanding accretion disks around black holes, detecting unseen exoplanets via circumstellar disk morphology, and analyzing the stability of multi-planet systems.
Quillen earned her PhD from Caltech in extragalactic astronomy and held positions at Ohio State University (Columbus Fellow) and the University of Arizona’s Steward Observatory. She was Chair of the American Astronomical Society’s Division on Dynamical Astronomy (2010) and a Simons Fellow in Theoretical Physics (2017). She received the prestigious Johann Wempe Award (2017) for her work on galaxy dynamics and celestial mechanics.
Her career includes observational, numerical, and theoretical studies of galactic structures and exoplanetary systems. She enriches the scientific community through collaborative research and mentorship, though no specific advisees are listed here.
