Ali Niknejad is the Donald O. Pederson Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at UC Berkeley. He serves as faculty co-director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) and Associate Director of the Center for Ubiquitous Connectivity (CUbiC). His research focuses on mm-wave/microwave circuits, biomedical imaging sensors, and integrated circuit technology, with applications in communication systems and medical sensing.
Education: PhD (2000), M.S. (1997), and B.S. (1994) in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley and UCLA.
Research interests span RF and mm-wave CMOS circuits, device modeling (BSIM), and electromagnetic systems. His work includes advancements in 5G+ technologies, RFID systems, and sub-THz communication. Notable contributions include high-linearity transceivers, energy-efficient power amplifiers, and electronic-photonic biosensors.
Awards include the 2020 SIA/SRC Research Award, IEEE Darlington Best Paper Award (2017), and IEEE Fellow (2012). His research groups collaborate on projects like the ACED Fab 240-GHz radar and the RINGS wideband communication initiative.
Labs and affiliations include the BWRC, CUbiC, and ComSenTer. He has pioneered innovations in low-power IoT radios, tumor dosimetry systems, and scalable transceiver arrays.
