Ali Mohamed

Ali Mohamed is affiliated with the Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota. He holds a BA in Islamic Studies and Translation from Al Azhar University (2013), an MA in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies from George Washington University (2017), and multiple certificates in Journalism, Middle East Affairs, and Translation from institutions like American University and The American University in Cairo. His research focuses on the intersections of religion, language, and politics in the Middle East, with special emphasis on Quranic studies, modernity, and decoloniality. Professionally, he specializes in teaching Arabic as a foreign language, curriculum development, and translation.

Before joining the University of Minnesota, he served as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University’s Arabic Flagship Program and taught at Middlebury College’s Arabic summer school. He has also interned at think tanks such as the Atlantic Council and the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, DC. His teaching expertise includes Arabic pedagogy, second-language acquisition, and courses on Islam and the Middle East.
