Ali Karjoo-Ravary is the Richard W. Bulliet Assistant Professor of Islamic History at Columbia University's History Department. Previously, he held the Josephine Hildreth Detmer & Zareen Taj Mirza Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies position at Bucknell University. He earned his PhD in 2018 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed his MA. His undergraduate degree (B.A., summa cum laude) was from SUNY Stony Brook.
His research focuses on transregional intellectual and social histories of the premodern Islamic world, emphasizing language, material culture, Sufism, and Islamic Law.
