Ali Ayadi

Ali Ayadi is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Strasbourg, where he teaches in the Computer Science Department of the Robert Schuman Institute of Technology and conducts research in the Data Science and Knowledge (SDC) team of the ICube laboratory, focusing on neuro-symbolic AI, knowledge engineering, and discrete event simulation.

His educational background includes a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Strasbourg (2015-2018) completed within the SDC team of ICube, preceded by Teaching and Research Assistant duties at the UFR of Mathematics and Computer Science (2017-2019).

Dr. Ayadi's research spans neuro-symbolic AI and explainable AI (XAI), knowledge engineering, conceptual representation, ontology-based domain modeling, inference processes, qualitative reasoning, and discrete event simulation, with applications targeting medical/biological domains and Industry 4.0 systems. His methodological approach integrates symbolic reasoning with neural networks to enhance interpretability in complex AI systems.

He leads the API ICube XAD project (2021-2024) on explainable anomaly detection and has contributed to major initiatives including ANR projects TURFU-NET and PullCoVapart, Horizon Europe's ENERGETIC, and European collaborations Gov4Nano and NanoInformaTIX, demonstrating sustained involvement in funded research at national and international levels.

Administratively, he coordinates internships for second-year BUT students and serves on the advisory board for first/second-year BUT programs, while scientifically he chairs sessions at KES conferences (2022-2024), reviews for journals including JDSA and JCIM, and participates in program committees for IDA and ECML PKDD.

As a core member of the SDC team within ICube—a joint laboratory of the University of Strasbourg, CNRS, and other institutions—he contributes to research infrastructure focused on machine learning, data science, and knowledge representation, actively bridging theoretical AI with practical industrial and medical applications.
