Ali Akalin

Ali Akalin, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School's T.H. Chan School of Medicine. He holds clinical roles as Staff Pathologist and Director of Head & Neck Pathology. His education includes an MD from Ankara University (1992) and a PhD in Experimental Pathology from Virginia Commonwealth University (2000). Board-certified in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology (2005) and Cytopathology (2007), he completed residencies and fellowships at the University of Colorado and University of Massachusetts medical schools.

Dr. Akalin specializes in head & neck pathology, cytopathology, and pulmonary pathology. His research focuses on improving diagnostic techniques in fine needle aspirations, developing molecular diagnostics for cervical cancers, radiolabeled biomarkers for tumor localization, and identifying prognostic markers in lung neoplasms.
