معرفی
Alfredo F. Fuentes is an active researcher specializing in Bolivian flora and plant systematics, holding dual research positions at the Missouri Botanical Garden (Saint Louis, MO) and the Herbario Nacional De Bolivia (La Paz, Bolivia) since 2001. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Biologia Vegetal II from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2000-2016) and a Licenciado in Biology from Universidad Autonoma Gabriel Rene Moreno (1992-1997).
Dr. Fuentes' research focuses on the taxonomy, ecology, and biogeography of Andean and Bolivian plant communities, with particular emphasis on montane forests, elevational gradients, and plant diversity patterns. His work spans botanical systematics, forest ecology, ethnobotany, and the impacts of climate change on tropical ecosystems. He has contributed significantly to the understanding of Passifloraceae, Cunoniaceae, Begonia, and other plant families in the Andes region.
His publication record shows consistent productivity with 44 documented works through 2025, demonstrating expertise in plant taxonomy, community ecology, and the impacts of environmental gradients on species distribution. Recent publications reveal a strong focus on Andean treeline dynamics, seed dispersal mechanisms, carbon storage in montane forests, and the phylogenetic assembly of forest communities across environmental gradients.
Scientific Awards:
- Premio Martín Cárdenas (2012-10) from Academia Nacional de Ciencias de Bolivia
Dr. Fuentes serves as Directorio for Sociedad Boliviana de Botánica (since 2009) and maintains active research collaborations across international institutions. His work contributes to biodiversity conservation efforts in Bolivia and the broader Andean region, with practical applications for understanding climate change impacts on tropical ecosystems and documenting Bolivia's rich botanical heritage.
