Alfred L. George, Jr. is the Alfred Newton Richards Professor of Pharmacology and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He also directs the Center for Pharmacogenomics. His multidisciplinary research bridges cardiovascular genetics, neuroscience, and molecular therapeutics, with a focus on arrhythmias, epilepsy, autism, and pharmacogenomics.
His work explores genetic mechanisms of diseases like Brugada syndrome and atrial fibrillation, leveraging engineered heart cells and molecular technologies to correct gene expression. Research interests include:
- Ion channel dysfunction in epilepsy and arrhythmias
- Genetic basis of autism and schizophrenia
- Therapeutic target discovery for heart disorders
- mRNA-based gene regulation
He collaborates extensively with Northwestern research centers, including the Center for Arrhythmia Research, Center for Genetic Medicine, and Simpson Querrey Institute for Epigenetics.
