Alfio Quarteroni is Professor at Politecnico di Milano and Professor Emeritus at EPFL in Lausanne. Previously, he served as a professor at the University of Minnesota. He founded and directed MOX at Politecnico di Milano (2002) and MATHICSE at EPFL (2010), and co-founded MOXOFF (2010), a spin-off company of Politecnico di Milano. With over 400 publications, 25 authored books, and editorial roles in 25 international journals, he is a leading figure in computational mathematics.
His research focuses on mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and scientific computing applied to diverse fields including fluid dynamics, geophysics, medical simulations, and sports engineering. Notable projects include the mathematical simulation for the Solar Impulse aircraft and performance optimization for America's Cup-winning yacht Alinghi.
