Alf Kastbom is an Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He leads a research group focused on early detection and mechanistic understanding of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), aiming to enable future disease prevention through biomarker discovery. His work integrates immunological, clinical, and translational approaches to address RA progression and treatment efficacy.
Research interests emphasize autoantibody dynamics, pre-symptomatic biomarkers, and the interplay between pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Recent studies investigate mucosal autoantibody secretion mechanisms and comparative efficacy of JAK inhibitors versus biologic therapies in RA pain management.
Dr. Kastbom collaborates with institutions across Europe and contributes to the Division of Inflammation and Infection. His research spans rheumatology, immunology, and clinical pharmacology, addressing both basic mechanisms and applied clinical questions.
