Aleš Bučar Ručman serves as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor, Slovenia, where he has held continuous academic appointments since 2004. Progressing from Teaching Assistant to Senior Lecturer (2007) and Assistant Professor (2014), he embodies long-term institutional commitment within Slovenia's criminal justice education landscape.
His academic foundation includes:
- PhD in Sociology, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts (2013)
- MA in Political Science, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Science (2006)
- BA in Political Science, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Science (2002)
Ručman's research critically examines media-crime relationships, migration dynamics, violence patterns, democratic legitimacy, and social control mechanisms. His work bridges sociological theory with criminal justice practice, notably through publications like 'Violence and Youth' (2004) and 'Consumer Democracy' (2011), which deconstruct political/media discourses in contemporary societies. This interdisciplinary approach informs his teaching of specialized courses including Violence and Society and Sociological Theories in Criminal Justice.
As a dedicated educator, he has supervised over 40 thesis students while developing curriculum that challenges students to analyze security through sociological frameworks. His academic trajectory reflects steady progression within Slovenia's criminal justice education sector, with no indications of part-time status, retirement, or former staff designation.
