Dr. Alexis Vallée-Bélisle is a tenured Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Université de Montréal and an accredited professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. He directs the Laboratory of Biosensors and Nanomachines, focusing on developing nature-inspired nanotechnologies for rapid disease detection and targeted drug delivery. His research spans biosensors, biotechnology, environmental science, and public health.
He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry (1997) and M.Sc. in Theoretical Chemistry (2000) from Université de Montréal, followed by a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (2008) under Prof. Steve Michnick. Postdoctoral training at UC Santa Barbara (2008-2012) focused on bioelectronic sensor development.
His awards include Canada Rising Star in Global Health (2012), NSF Materials Research Award (2011), and a Quebec Research Chair (2014-2024). Key innovations include a 5-minute HIV detection device and DNA-based nanosensors. Over 30 publications and 800+ citations highlight his contributions to molecular engineering and diagnostics.
Grants include NSERC Discovery Grants, FQRNT strategic initiatives, and partnerships with Anasens and MITACS. He advises on projects like multiplexed drug detection systems and home-based health monitoring devices. His lab collaborates with PROTEO and the Continuous Flow Chemistry Center (CCVC).
