Alexis Orellana is a Lecturer in the Dual Masters Degree in Applied Economics and Social and Economic Policy at Northwestern University's School of Education & Social Policy. He also serves as Lead Economist at the RISEI Lab. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester (2021), and prior degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Chile.
His research focuses on education policy, labor economics, and social networks, with particular attention to teacher workforce dynamics, earnings growth mechanisms, and peer/spillover effects in educational choices. Recent work examines licensure tests' impact on teacher supply, post-COVID teacher workforce changes, and how coworkers and neighbors influence earnings trajectories.
