Alexis Hure

Dr. Alexis Hure is a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle's School of Medicine and Public Health, where she investigates health across the lifespan with particular focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, and cardiovascular epidemiology. As a Novocastrian who completed all her education at the University of Newcastle, she maintains strong local research connections while contributing to national and international health studies.

Dr. Hure earned her Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) followed by a PhD in Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Newcastle, establishing her foundation in nutritional science and epidemiology. Her academic journey led to her current dual roles as a Senior Research Fellow with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and a Senior Lecturer at the University.

Her research spans two complementary domains: maternal and child health, and cardiovascular epidemiology. In maternal health, she examines how nutrition before and during pregnancy, breastfeeding practices, and early childhood nutrition influence long-term health outcomes. Her WATCH (Women And Their Children) study follows a cohort of 180 expectant women with comprehensive longitudinal data collection. In cardiovascular research, she investigates whether pneumococcal vaccination might prevent vascular events through the AUSPICE trial and works to reduce unnecessary pathology testing in hospitals.

Dr. Hure's recent publications reveal a strong focus on translating research into practice, with significant contributions to diabetes care integration, nutritional epidemiology, and cardiovascular disease prevention. Her work often examines how dietary patterns affect long-term health outcomes and healthcare costs, while also addressing practical healthcare system improvements.
