Alexis Granwell is a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, affiliated with the Weitzman School of Design's Fine Arts department. Her work focuses on sculpture, drawing, and the intersection of materiality and human experience, particularly through pulp-based media.
Education: MFA in Fine Arts (University of Pennsylvania, 2007); BFA in Painting (Boston University, 2003, magna cum laude with a minor in Art History).
Research interests include the psychological and physical dimensions of built/natural environments, tactile intimacy in art, and experimental paper-pulp techniques. Her exhibitions span institutions like The American University Art Museum, Weatherspoon Museum, Dieu Donné residency lab, and international venues in Berlin, Vilnius, and beyond.
Awardees of the 2015 Independence Foundation Fellowship, Granwell has been featured in Hyperallergic, Sculpture Magazine, The Washington Post, and others. She co-directed Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia (2013–2018) and remains active in that collective since 2009.
