Alexey Petrov is a Professor of Physics at Wayne State University in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He has been a faculty member at Wayne State University since 2001, progressing from Assistant Professor (2001-2006) to Associate Professor (2006-2011) and finally to his current position as Professor (2011-present). Prior to joining Wayne State, he held research positions at Cornell University (2000-2001) and Johns Hopkins University (1997-2000).
His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). His research focuses on theoretical high energy particle physics, particularly in areas related to flavor physics, baryon number violation, and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model.
Petrov's research program spans multiple frontiers of particle physics, with significant contributions to understanding rare decays, mixing phenomena, and precision tests of the Standard Model. His recent work demonstrates deep engagement with both theoretical developments and experimental constraints across multiple particle physics subfields. He has particular expertise in charm physics, kaon physics, and searches for lepton flavor violation, with significant contributions to understanding the implications of precision measurements for new physics scenarios.
