Alexey Leontyev is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at North Dakota State University (NDSU). His research focuses on Chemistry Education, particularly in green chemistry education and the evaluation of innovative teaching methods. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado and has conducted postdoctoral research.
His research group develops assessment tools to measure students' understanding and affective responses to green chemistry, including the Assessment of Student Knowledge of Green Chemistry Principles (ASK-GCP). He investigates alternative grading practices and flipped learning methodologies, employing meta-analytical approaches to synthesize educational studies.
Notable contributions include national surveys on green chemistry curriculum adoption and the creation of student-generated open educational resources (OERs). His work bridges pedagogical innovation with sustainability, emphasizing the integration of green chemistry principles into undergraduate curricula.
Leontyev leads the OrganicERs initiative, a community of organic chemistry educators, fostering collaboration through workshops and web-based resources. His research also explores hot carrier dynamics in materials science and the efficacy of professional development tools for STEM faculty.
