European University Instituteمعرفی
Alexandru Daniel Moise is a Research Fellow and part-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. His work focuses on the intersection of political science, health policy, and European integration, with particular emphasis on understanding how political factors shape health outcomes and welfare systems across Europe.
Dr. Moise received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Central European University in September 2019. His doctoral research laid the foundation for his current work on political determinants of healthcare access and health inequalities.
Moise's research program investigates how party ideology, clientelism, and public opinion influence each other and ultimately impact health policy and health outcomes. He employs a mixed-methods approach combining survey experiments, statistical analysis of observational data, and qualitative case studies. His broader research interests span political economy, welfare studies, and party politics, with a regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe. Much of his recent work has examined the health policy and welfare impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, including participation in the CIVICA Grant Project WELDECO (Welfare, Democracy, and Populism under the COVID-19 Crisis) with researchers from CEU, LSE, and Bocconi universities.
Analysis of Dr. Moise's extensive publication record reveals a strong focus on European solidarity, particularly in times of crisis such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic. His work frequently employs experimental methodologies to understand public opinion on EU integration, refugee policy, and health systems. A recurring theme is the examination of how external threats shape European identity and policy responses, with particular attention to differences between Eastern and Western Europe. His research demonstrates how health policy outcomes are deeply intertwined with political variables including party ideology, clientelism, and public opinion dynamics.
Dr. Moise is actively involved in teaching, serving as a part-time Assistant Professor at the EUI where he teaches quantitative methods. He has also taught Regression Analysis and Programming with R at the European Consortium for Political Research's Summer and Winter Schools in Methods (2019-2021) and was previously a Visiting Lecturer at Ilia State University in Georgia, teaching courses in methods and political economy.
His research is supported through various collaborative projects, most notably the CIVICA Grant Project WELDECO which examines welfare, democracy, and populism under the COVID-19 crisis. This multinational project involves researchers from multiple prestigious European institutions and has generated significant insights into how pandemic responses have varied across different political systems and welfare regimes.
