Prof. Alexandros Nikitas is a Professor of Sustainable Transport Futures at the Huddersfield Business School (University of Huddersfield), serving as Director of the Future Mobility Lab and Deputy Director of the Behavioural Research Centre. He holds roles in the Sustainable Living Research Centre and Centre for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. His academic journey includes a PhD in Transport and Society (UWE, 2010) and advanced degrees from Durham, Edinburgh Napier, and UWE.
Research Expertise: Prof. Nikitas focuses on sustainable mobility, autonomous vehicles, shared mobility, and transport policy. He leads the Universities' Transport Study Group (UTSG) Executive Committee and serves as an Associate Editor for journals like Journal of Transport & Health. His work bridges transport innovation with societal impacts, including projects on mobility hubs and urban resilience.
Key Achievements: Ranked among the world’s top 2% researchers (Stanford/Elsevier), he contributed a flagship 4* REF Impact Case on Active Transportation. He leads funded projects like Kirklees Council’s sustainable mobility initiative and collaborates internationally with institutions like Chalmers University (Sweden) and National Technical University of Athens.
Awards: Recipient of two international awards for his PhD thesis on road pricing attitudes, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2016).
Labs/Teams: Directs the Future Mobility Lab and contributes to the Centre for Biomimetic Societal Futures, exploring transport’s role in urban development and sustainability.
