Dr. Alexandros Katranidis is a researcher at Forschungszentrum Jülich, affiliated with the Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons (ER-C) and the Structural Biology (ER-C-3) department. He holds a Master’s degree in Nanobiotechnology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and a PhD from Forschungszentrum Jülich, focusing on protein folding on the ribosome under Georg Büldt.
His research spans co-translational protein folding, single-molecule fluorescence methodologies, and cell-free protein synthesis systems, incorporating unnatural amino acids. He has collaborated with experts in optical tweezers, including Martin Hegner at Trinity College Dublin and Sander Tans at AMOLF Amsterdam.
Currently, he integrates his expertise in single-molecule techniques with structural biology and cryoEM in the Sachse lab. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding protein dynamics and structure-function relationships.
