Alexandria Guzmán, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Chair of Psychology & Sociology at the University of New Haven, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She also serves as Chair of the Faculty Senate. Her research focuses on human cognition, particularly language processing and reading comprehension, with implications for understanding cognitive functions like perception, attention, memory, and metamemory.
Her current research explores three key areas:
- Inferences in reading and their real-world consequences
- Interpretation of ambiguity and figurative language
- Causes and implications of reading proficiency differences
Dr. Guzmán teaches foundational and advanced courses in psychology, including Introduction to Psychology, Experimental Methods, Statistics for Behavioral Sciences, Psychology of Language, and Sensation & Perception. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology from Binghamton University and a prior M.S. and B.S. in Chemistry from Fordham and Seton Hall Universities.
