Alexandra Revynthi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida's Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC). She specializes in agricultural acarology, focusing on mite and insect pest management in ornamental and tropical crops. Her research emphasizes biological control, integrated pest management (IPM), and invasive species management, particularly targeting pests like the Hibiscus bud weevil and Lychee erinose mite. Revynthi holds a PhD in acarology from the University of Amsterdam.
Key research areas include development of IPM programs for invasive pests, evaluation of acaricides and insecticides, and exploration of biological control agents such as predatory mites. She leads projects on pest monitoring techniques, including pheromone-based trapping systems for weevils and thrips. Her work integrates field studies with lab experiments, addressing issues like pesticide compatibility and temperature effects on pest populations.
Revynthi collaborates extensively with growers, extension agents, and state agencies to translate research into practical solutions. She has authored over 30 publications and developed critical resources like the Agricultural Acarology Workshop. Her efforts aim to reduce economic losses from pests while minimizing environmental impacts through sustainable practices.
