Dr. Alexandra Paddock is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Old and Middle English at Keble College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on medieval ecocriticism, animal studies, and the representation of the natural world in literature, particularly through animal metaphors in medieval texts like the Physiologus and bestiaries. She teaches core medieval literature courses, including Prelims 2: English 650-1350 and FHS 2: English 1350-1550, and co-convenes the Faculty Special option on Fairytales, Folklore, and Fantasy with Professor Diane Purkiss.
Her monograph project, Unland: Animal Spaces in Medieval Literature, explores animal-spatial metaphors in medieval texts. Current projects include analyses of earth-moving animals in bestiaries and collaborations on ecocritical approaches to medieval literature. She co-founded LitHits Ltd, a digital reading initiative, and leads the Ten-Minute Book Club, an outreach project funded by the Minderoo-Oxford Challenge Fund.
