Dr. Alexandra Kriz is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland. She has established herself as a prominent researcher in innovation, international business, and entrepreneurship with a focus on technology-based firms and organizational dynamics.
Dr. Kriz completed her academic journey with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours 1st Class) at the University of Sydney, where she was awarded the Canon Honours Scholarship for her thesis on ambidexterity in innovation. She continued her studies at the University of Sydney's Business School, completing her Ph.D. which explored innovation among high-tech firms. During her doctoral studies, she collaborated with CSIRO on an innovation project involving over 50 interviews with key stakeholders.
Dr. Kriz's research interests center around ambidextrous innovation, the early growth of firms, internationalization of technology-based SMEs, human-centered design, and dynamic capabilities. Her work examines how organizations navigate complex environments through strategic adaptation and innovation. She investigates the interplay between historical contexts and contemporary business challenges, particularly in the realms of spinoff ventures, organizational change during mergers and acquisitions, and the co-evolution of science-based startups with their entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on organizational dynamics in complex business environments. A significant thread in her research examines how organizations manage innovation and change through dynamic capabilities, particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions, international expansion, and science-based entrepreneurship. She has made notable contributions to understanding the temporal dimensions of internationalization processes and how emotional memory impacts organizational change during mergers. Her work also explores the co-evolution of science-based startups with their entrepreneurial ecosystems, highlighting the importance of historical context in contemporary business challenges.

Dr. Kriz is actively involved in supervising PhD students, currently guiding four doctoral candidates and having previously supervised three to completion. Her supervision topics span diverse areas including transforming Australian agricultural SMEs into global food multinationals, theorizing Japanese Shinise SMEs' longevity, human-centered design for resilient organizational cultures, emotions in post-merger integration, host-country nationals' adaptation to skilled migration in Laos, brand purpose in FMCG markets, and knowledge translation in Chinese high-speed rail contexts. She has secured research funding from CSIRO for investigating barriers to impact from R&D commercialisation, demonstrating her ability to attract competitive research grants.
