Alexandra Krettek

Alexandra Krettek serves as Professor of Public Health and Dean of University of Skövde since January 2020. She also holds a dual appointment as Professor II at UiT The Arctic University of Norway since 2015. Previously, she was Pro-Dean at University of Skövde (2017-2019) and Chair of Public Health (2015-2017). Her academic journey includes positions at Nordic School of Public Health NHV where she served as Professor of Public Health (2012), Research Coordinator, and Director of Advanced Studies.

Her educational background includes MSc in Biology from Lund University (1992) and PhD in Medicine (Cardiovascular Prevention) from University of Gothenburg (1999). Following three years as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, she held an Assistant Professor position at the Swedish Research Council before becoming Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Prevention at Sahlgrenska Academy/University of Gothenburg in 2005 and Senior Lecturer at Nordic School of Public Health NHV in 2007.

Professor Krettek's research spans from biomedical aspects of atherosclerosis development to population-based public health studies with special emphasis on cardiovascular disease prevention. Since 2008, her work has focused on global health, particularly examining cardiovascular health in Nepal through digital interventions. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on digital health promotion among adolescents in Nepal, obesity epidemiology in Russian populations, and the adaptation of health assessment tools across cultures.

Her scholarly output reveals a consistent focus on cardiovascular health across diverse populations, with increasing attention to digital health solutions and global health applications. The research trajectory shows progression from basic cardiovascular mechanisms to population-level interventions, with recent emphasis on technology-enabled health promotion in resource-limited settings.

Alexandra Krettek has supervised 15 PhD students to completion and 13 master's theses, in addition to numerous graduate projects. Her teaching and lecturing experience spans both national and international contexts, reflecting her commitment to public health education across borders.

Her current leadership position as Dean demonstrates institutional recognition of her scholarly contributions and administrative capabilities. Her dual appointment at UiT The Arctic University of Norway underscores her international academic standing and the cross-border nature of her research interests, particularly in circumpolar health issues as evidenced by publications in the International Journal of Circumpolar Health.
