Alexandra E J Hall is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics at the University of York, Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research lies at the intersection of critical security studies, migration, and political ethics, with a focus on immigration detention, border practices, and everyday security.
Her research interests include critical security studies, immigration detention, border politics, ethics of care, surveillance, political anthropology, and cosmopolitanism. She employs qualitative and ethnographic methods to explore the moral, affective, and existential dimensions of border control and security practices.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a consistent engagement with the politics of care, discretion, and affect in immigration systems, the role of data and visual practices in border security, and the moral conditions of cosmopolitan belonging. Her work spans disciplines including political science, sociology, ethics, and cultural studies, with strong thematic continuity in migration governance and human rights.
