Alexandra D’Arcy is a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Victoria, affiliated with the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures. She serves as Director of the Sociolinguistics Research Lab (SLRL), fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring students in sociolinguistic research.

Research Interests include:
- Quantitative variationist sociolinguistics, focusing on pragmatic and morphosyntactic variability in global English varieties.
- Diachronic and synchronic analysis of language change, emphasizing the historical roots of contemporary linguistic features.
- Professional and research ethics in linguistics, advocating for socially conscious linguistic theory.
Lab Leadership: The SLRL hosts undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, and visiting scholars from institutions like Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the University of British Columbia. The lab maintains private and licensed sociolinguistic corpora, including the Diachronic Corpus of Victoria English and the Canterbury Regional Corpus.
Grants and Funding: Her work is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the University of Victoria’s Internal Research Grants Program, and other institutional research bodies.
