Alexandra Anna Spalek is an Associate Professor in Spanish Language and Head of Education at the Department of Literature, Area Studies, and European Languages at the University of Oslo. She holds a PhD in Linguistic Communication and Multilingual Mediation from the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) and has extensive experience in academic leadership, including her role as Head of Education since 2021. Her research focuses on natural language semantics, particularly lexical semantics, exploring how word meaning interacts with larger linguistic structures across languages. She has contributed to both theoretical and applied linguistics, addressing challenges in formal semantic models using data from Spanish, German, English, and Polish.

Research Interests: Her work emphasizes lexical semantics, semantic coercion, polysemy, and the interplay between lexicography and computational methodologies. She investigates how context shapes meaning, particularly in cross-linguistic studies. Key areas include verb meaning, thematic roles, and the application of formal semantic frameworks.
Teaching & Leadership: Spalek teaches courses in Spanish and German linguistics, covering morphology, syntax, pragmatics, and discourse analysis. As Head of Education, she oversees curriculum development and quality assurance at the departmental level, collaborating closely with the Faculty of Humanities.
