Dr. Alexander Wisnoski is a historian specializing in colonial Latin America and early modern world history. He currently serves as the Associate Department Head for the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at the University of North Georgia, where he contributes to academic leadership and curriculum development.
- Education: Ph.D. in History from the University of Minnesota (2015), M.A. in History from Appalachian State University (2009), B.A. in History from Lee University (2007)
His research focuses on colonial Latin America, particularly the intersection of gender, legal systems, and social hierarchies. Current work includes a book project analyzing marriage and masculinity in 17th-century Lima, Peru. His publications explore themes such as enslaved marital relationships, labor resistance in missions, and infrastructure development in North Carolina.
Key trends in his scholarship include colonial governance, gender dynamics, religious conflict, and environmental impacts of infrastructure. He has taught courses ranging from Western Civilization to Latin American history at institutions like Messiah College, Miami University Middletown, and Southern New Hampshire University.
