Alexander Thiele

Prof. Alexander Thiele serves as Vice-Rector for Research and Interdisciplinarity and holds the Chair of State Theory and Public Law at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. He previously held adjunct professorships at the University of Göttingen and visiting roles at multiple universities. His academic background includes a doctorate from Georg August University Göttingen (2006) and a habilitation in financial supervision (2013).

His research focuses on constitutional law, democracy and state theory, financial and monetary law, and European law. He has published extensively, including the influential book Loss Democracy (2016), for which he received the Foundation Prize from the University of Göttingen. He actively engages with current political issues through media appearances and social media.

Prof. Thiele has taught at numerous institutions, consistently earning high student evaluations. In 2018, he was awarded the Faculty Prize for his General Administrative Law lecture. His contributions to interdisciplinary research and public discourse highlight his commitment to democratic constitutional studies.
