Dr. Alexander Suyer is a Research Coordinator at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, part of the Max Planck Society. Previously, he served as Senior Research Fellow (2015–2021) and Junior Research Fellow (2013–2015) at the same institute, focusing on innovation policy, disruptive technologies, and digitalization. He holds a Dr. oec. publ. from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich (2015), an MBR from LMU (2011), and a Dipl.-Kfm. from Technical University Munich (TUM) and National University of Singapore (2008).
His research interests span innovation policy design, disruptive technology adoption, and digital transformation strategies. Notable projects include advising the German Federal Government on the establishment of the SPRIN-D agency, developing strategies for the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt), and analyzing copyright law challenges in digital markets. He has also provided expert advice to the Munich I Regional Court on patent litigation procedures.
His work frequently bridges academic research and practical policy, with a focus on agile innovation frameworks, strategic innovation management, and data-driven policy advice. Key publications include analyses on German innovation policy transitions, consumer behavior regarding digital copyright, and the socio-technical adoption of electromobility.
Awarded the Peter Pribilla Award and Stadtwerke München Award for academic excellence, Suyer has also held scholarships from the Bavarian Excellence Programs. His interdisciplinary approach integrates economics, law, and technology management to address complex innovation challenges.
