Alexander Stessin

Dr. Alexander Stessin is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. A dual-certified MD-PhD physician-scientist, he specializes in gastrointestinal cancers and central nervous system tumors, integrating advanced research and clinical expertise to develop innovative radiotherapy protocols.

• Education: MD-PhD from Sloan-Kettering Institute, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Rockefeller University; residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
• Clinical Focus: Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for pancreatic/liver cancers, whole-brain radiation with neuroprotection strategies, and MammoSite® brachytherapy for breast cancer.
• Research Focus: Mitigation of radiation-induced cognitive dysfunction, molecular targets for brain tumor therapies, and improving outcomes in gastrointestinal and brain malignancies.
