Alexander S Lo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and a core faculty member of the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research (CHSOR) within the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM). His academic role bridges clinical emergency medicine and rigorous health services investigation.
Dr. Lo's research spans two distinct domains: health services and outcomes research in emergency medicine, and advanced materials science. In health services, he focuses on optimizing emergency care systems, quality improvement, and public health impact through outcomes evaluation. Concurrently, his materials science work explores fundamental molecular properties, particularly nonlinear optical phenomena in chromophores and heterojunctions, with implications for photonics and energy applications.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on molecular design principles for chromophores, emphasizing twisted intramolecular charge transfer systems and heterojunction engineering. These works demonstrate innovative approaches to enhancing hyperpolarizability and understanding solvent effects, contributing significantly to the development of next-generation optical materials while maintaining relevance to broader interdisciplinary applications.
